What is chemistry?
From hands-on experiments with state-of-the-art instrumentation to engagement in original research with faculty, Wabash chemistry majors are continually challenged to become investigators. The Wabash chemistry department possesses an active and enthusiastic faculty, who teach a rigorous curriculum in a modern and well-equipped facility. Wabash chemistry classes emphasize instruction in fundamentals as key to the creative use of chemistry in the classroom and the laboratory. The Wabash College 3D Printing & Fabrication Center serves as a nexus for educational STEM and STEAM activities on campus and is housed in the chemistry department. Why go to college for chemistry?
Chemistry majors at Wabash College receive not only direct laboratory experience, but also direct exposure to current research projects. All faculty members are actively engaged outside the classroom in chemical or pedagogical research or in serving at the state and national level in professional organizations. The department also boasts of a special collection of instruments not routinely found at small colleges, such as a 400 MHz multi-nuclear, super-conducting Fourier Transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, a home-built laser-scanning microscope used for nonlinear optical imaging, and a high-performance liquid chromatography instrument with quadrupole mass spectrometer detector.
